I know what you’re thinking, “Haven’t I heard this before?” Well, yes you have. This title was inspired by the thematic and often quoted spider-man phrase “With great power comes great responsibility” alternatively known as the Peter Parker principle. It’s one of those quotes that are so self sufficient that just saying it sounds so good it automatically makes sense.

What if we tried interpreting it differently? Have you ever wondered what would happen if you decided to take responsibility for everything that happens to you? This would not only involve being accountable for the outcomes of your decisions but also things that happen to you as a result of other people’s actions.

Taking responsibility for your actions basically means acknowledging the role you play in your own life and taking charge of everything that happens to you. This includes that job interview you took and got rejected, that business idea that didn’t exactly pan out as you had hoped for, the fitness goals that are never really achieved or that girl/guy you let get away.

Sir Isaac Newton is a world renowned physicist and mathematician who developed the principles of modern physics and laid the foundation for classical mechanics.

“For every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction” ~ Newton’s third law of motion.

According to Newton, every interaction consists of a pair of forces acting on an object. The first one initiates the motion while the second is a reaction to the first -No, this is not a physics lecture. Life is similar to a moving object; it is constantly in motion and is affected by all these forces in the universe. At any point in time, it is our responsibility to decide how we choose to react to events that were initiated by our choices as well as those that we do not have any control over.

“Love life. Engage in it. Give it all you’ve got. Love it with a passion because life truly does give back, many times over, what you put into it.” ~Maya Angelou

To lead a genuinely happy life, we must learn to take responsibility for the things that happen to us. Although this may seem like a great task, it can be accomplished by a series of small acts. Similar to chain reactions, life consists of a series of events so related to each other that each one initiates the next. It is the sum of all our choices.
